Board-certified and fellowship-trained in cardiology and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Terry Grainger sees patients at Beaufort Memorial Heart Specialists in Beaufort and Okatie. With more than 30 years of experience, he provides knowledgeable, compassionate care for acute and chronic heart conditions, specializing in preventive cardiology, partnering with patients to support healthy lifestyles and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Areas of Expertise
- Preventive Medicine — Adjusting habits and behaviors related to nutrition or physical activity levels, as a means of improving overall health and longevity and preventing cardiovascular disease.
- Hypertension — A condition where the force of blood pushing against your artery walls is consistently too high (also called high blood pressure).
- Arrythmia Management — Abnormal electrical conduction (beating) of the heart resulting in irregular, too fast (tachycardic) or too slow (bradycardic) heart rhythms.
- Congestive Heart Failure — A chronic condition in which the heart is unable to pump blood or fill as well as it should.
- Sleep Apnea — A disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Loud snoring and morning fatigue are symptoms.

Background
Dr. Grainger knew from a young age that medicine was his calling. While in high school, he developed a strong interest in cardiology and even had the opportunity to shadow a surgeon at a local hospital.
He went on to pursue a career in the field, attending medical school at MUSC, followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology, both completed in Greenville, N.C. His professional experience spans cardiology, sleep medicine and obesity medicine, and most recently he treated patients with heart conditions and sleep disorders at Prisma Health in Columbia, S.C.
Dr. Grainger enjoys spending time on the water boating and fishing. He and his wife, Mary Ann, have two children, and he also enjoys staying active through regular exercise.
