About Dr. Christopher Benson

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Christopher Benson spent 17 years in private practice in Rock Hill, South Carolina, before joining Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists. A former president of the South Carolina OB/GYN Society and chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, he also served as an obstetrics hospitalist at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.
Areas of Expertise
- Obstetrical Care - The care of women during pregnancy and childbirth.
- Infertility - The inability to achieve a successful pregnancy after one year of trying to conceive.
- Contraception - Any medicine, device or method used to prevent pregnancy, including birth control pills, intrauterine devices (IUD) and condoms.
- Robotic Surgery - A type of minimally invasive surgery that uses robotic arms controlled by a surgeon to insert tiny surgical instruments into a patient’s body, permitting maximum precision and range of motion.
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) - A hormone disorder that can cause infertility, ovarian cysts and irregular menstrual periods.
Background
Highly experienced in the use of the da Vinci Surgical System for robotic surgery, including single-site laparoscopic surgery, he has instructed other surgeons in its techniques as well. He attended medical school on a military scholarship and completed his residency following deployment as squadron surgeon to Saudi Arabia and Iraq with Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Dr. Benson attained the Army rank of Major.
A lifelong endurance athlete, Dr. Benson has competed in numerous marathons, Ironman triathlons and multiday adventure races. A certified acupuncturist, he uses his strong interest in and knowledge of fitness, weight-loss and complementary disciplines for his patients' beneft.
He and his wife, Laurie, have three children.
