He provides his patients with a wide range of primary care services, specializing in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses.

Areas of Expertise

• Diabetes — A chronic condition characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose, or sugar, in the blood that affects how the body turns food into energy and can cause damage to the heart, nerves, kidneys or eyes.
• Hypertension — Elevated blood pressure that, over time, can cause the heart to work overtime and pump harder, possibly leading to heart attack, stroke, heart failure or kidney failure.
• Mental Health Management — Helping patients maintain or return to emotional and psychological health.
• HIV Prevention — Medical and behavioral strategies used stop the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
• Preventive Care — Checkups, immunizations, tests and screenings used to prevent serious diseases and medical conditions or to detect them before they become major problems, such as heart attacks, cancer, certain cancers, etc.

Background

As a first-generation immigrant, Dr. Nguyen was inspired to pursue medicine after seeing the healthcare challenges his family experienced as members of an underserved population. He moved to Savannah from outside of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, at age seven. He initially considered emergency medicine before discovering a passion for internal medicine — a specialty that promotes continuity of care as a primary care physician.

During his internal medicine residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, he trained extensively in inpatient and outpatient settings and is passionate about serving his community, especially the Vietnamese population, here in the Lowcountry.

Dr. Nguyen is an adventure seeker and world traveler, who dreams of visiting Antarctica one day. He’s also a foodie who enjoys exploring the Savannah and Lowcountry culinary scenes.
