A new internal medicine specialist is joining Beaufort Memorial in Bluffton, adding to the health system’s growing primary care network.
Dr. Minh A. Nguyen has joined Beaufort Memorial Palmetto Medical Group in Bluffton and is looking forward to partnering with Lowcountry patients to educate, empower, and equip them with the knowledge and resources they need to achieve the healthiest outcomes.
“Dr. Nguyen brings to Beaufort Memorial a commitment to ensuring that his patients feel heard, informed, respected and supported throughout their healthcare journey,” said Beaufort Memorial President and CEO Russell Baxley. “As the largest primary care network in Beaufort County continues to grow, Dr. Nguyen will improve access to much-needed services here in Bluffton.”
As a first-generation immigrant, Dr. Nguyen was inspired to pursue medicine after seeing the healthcare challenges his family experienced as members of an underserved population. Originally from a suburb of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, his family relocated to Savannah when he was seven.
Before attending medical school at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine-Auburn in Auburn, Ala., Dr. Nguyen worked as a medical interpreter, helping patients navigate healthcare systems and overcome language barriers. His experiences serving Vietnamese-speaking patients reinforced his passion for improving healthcare access and advocating for individuals who often struggle to be heard within the medical system.
Further inspired by the impact that physicians have on patient care, Dr. Nguyen considered emergency medicine before discovering that his true passion lay in internal medicine – a specialty he feels is rewarding by promoting continuity of care.
He completed his internal medicine residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where he gained inpatient and outpatient experience and deepened his interest in the complex connections among organ systems and the diagnostic skills that shape internal medicine.
His residency experience also shaped his approach to patient care, which is personable, holistic and centered on communication.
“Every patient deserves a physician who listens first, explains clearly and treats them the way they would want their own family to be treated,” he said. Among his areas of expertise are chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, mental health disorders and HIV prevention, and he also specializes in guiding his patients to prevent and reduce the risk of serious diseases and disorders.
The practice, located at 4818 Bluffton Parkway, provides a full range of general outpatient medical care for adults and children five years and older, with an emphasis on wellness and chronic disease management and prevention. Laboratory services are also available on site.
