A board-certified physician assistant with years of emergency and urological experience, Kristin Callaghan evaluates a variety of urological complaints, interprets diagnostic studies and helps patients understand their results to determine further courses of evaluation and treatment.

Areas of Expertise

• Kidney Stones — Hard deposits of minerals and salts formed in the kidneys that often cause sharp, cramping pain in the back and side when they move within the kidney or pass into one of the ureters.
• Urinary Incontinence — A loss of bladder control resulting in leakage of urine.
• Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) — A condition, more common in women, in which bacteria invade and grow in the urinary tract. Infections mostly occur in the bladder and urethra but may also affect the kidneys and ureters.
• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) — A common non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland which may slow or block the flow of urine.
• Prostate Cancer — Cancer that occurs in the prostate, a small walnut-sized gland in men that produces seminal fluid.

Background

Mrs. Callaghan joined Coastal Carolina Urology Group in 2022 following a seven-year tenure as an emergency medicine physician assistant at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. She also previously worked in emergency medicine in Charleston, and for a urology practice in Savannah, Ga.

When not at work, the Lowcountry native enjoys staying active with her husband and three girls, running and spending time at the beach.
