With more than two decades of experience, Dr. Louis Plzak offers comprehensive care for urological issues in both women and men. He brings a straightforward and systematic approach to diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions including incontinence and voiding dysfunction, kidney stones, bladder cancer and recurrent urinary tract infections.
Areas of Expertise
- Kidney Stones – Hard deposits of minerals and salts formed in the kidneys that often cause sharp, cramping pain in the back and side when they move within the kidney or pass into one of the ureters.
- Urinary Incontinence – A loss of bladder control resulting in leakage of urine.
- Bladder Resection – Also known as a cystectomy, a procedure to remove a tumor or abnormal tissue from the bladder through the urethra.
- Lithotripsy – A non-invasive treatment to break up kidney stones using shockwaves.
- Testicular Cancer – Cancer that forms in the testes, the male organs that make male hormones and sperm.

Background
Dr. Plzak joined Coastal Carolina Urology Group, which was acquired by Beaufort Memorial in late 2023, after he completed an incontinence and female urology fellowship in 2002 at Harvard University’s Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center. His specialized fellowship studies brought a welcome emphasis to the Beaufort practice on women’s urological concerns.
Dr. Plzak, who grew up in the outskirts of Philadelphia, attributes his very organized and efficient approach to patient care to his residency at the University of Pennsylvania where a busy and fast-paced schedule also provided him with a tremendous amount of surgical experience.
An avid kite surfer, Dr. Plzak loves everything about wind and water.
