About Dr. Michael Nelems

“I believe every patient deserves care that meets them where they are. Each encounter is an opportunity to listen carefully, uncover what they need and provide care with precision and passion. The goal is to deliver effective and efficient care with respect for every patient.”

An expert in emergency medicine, Dr. Michael Nelems, quickly evaluates, diagnoses and treats a wide range of critical illnesses and traumatic injuries in adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Nelems leads the care team in resuscitating patients and, when necessary, stabilizing the patient’s condition for transport to a Level I trauma center.

Background

After completing his undergraduate degree at The Citadel, Dr. Nelems gained firsthand experience of the pace, complexity and human impact of emergency medicine as a medical scribe with Beaufort Memorial’s Emergency Department.

Having a goal to return to the Lowcountry, he went on to South Carolina’s Upstate region to earn his medical degree and the Midlands to complete his residency with a large Level I trauma center, training in a high-volume, high-acuity environment.

He is excited to return to Beaufort Memorial as an emergency physician, feeling honored and humbled to provide care where his story began.
