With over 30 years of experience in internal medicine, Dr. Carl Derrick provides patients of all ages with primary care services at Beaufort Memorial Lowcountry Medical Group, specializing in cardiovascular and endocrine medicine, preventive care and the management of acute and chronic conditions.

• Endocrine Medicine — The branch of medicine focusing on the endocrine system, the network of glands and organs that produce and release hormones.
• Internal Medicine — The treatment of a wide range of conditions that affect the body’s internal organs.
• Hypertension — Elevated blood pressure that over time can cause the heart to work overtime and pump harder, possibly leading to heart attack, stroke, heart failure or kidney failure.
• Chronic Disease Management — Evidence-based treatment of long-term conditions through medication management, lifestyle counseling, and ongoing monitoring.
• Preventive Healthcare — Routine exams, immunizations, screenings, and risk assessments designed to prevent disease or detect conditions early.

Dr. Derrick offers virtual visits for patients needing medication checks, standard chronic illness management, sick visits and follow up care for certain conditions. If interested, ask about the option when scheduling.

Background

Inspired by his father, a physician, Dr. Derrick pursued medicine and a lifelong commitment to patient care. He has served as a staff physician at Bayview Nursing Center in Beaufort, medical director at Driftwood Nursing Center and physician with Lowcountry Medical Associates in Charleston. He is currently assistant medical director at Mirasol Health.

Dr. Derrick also has served as chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Beaufort Memorial and as a clinical instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is currently medical director of Homestead Hospice in Beaufort and Sprenger Health Care in Port Royal.

Dr. Derrick and his wife Melissa have four children. He loves spending time with his family and also enjoys fishing and playing golf.
