About Dr. Spenser Staub

"I want my patients to know I’m listening and feel heard. Medicine is a puzzle, and it’s a privilege to be able to solve it and make these decisions together."

A board-certified, fellowship-trained pulmonologist, Dr. Spenser Staub brings his passion for lung health to Beaufort Memorial Pulmonary Specialists, diagnosing and treating patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, including COPD, asthma and lung disease. He also manages care for patients admitted to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital intensive care unit (ICU).

Areas of Expertise

  • Nontuberculous Mycobacterial (NTM) Lung Disease — A lung infection caused by the inhalation of bacteria found naturally in soil and water.
  • Bronchiectasis — A chronic condition where the walls of your airways widen and thicken from inflammation and infection.
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) — An ongoing condition that can cause inflammation and damage to the airways, making it difficult to breathe.
  • Asthma — A condition in which the airways become inflamed, swollen and constricted, causing excessive mucous production, wheezing and shortness of breath.
  • Occupational Lung Disease — Chronic lung disease developed from exposure to environmental and occupational lung irritants.

Background

Many of Dr. Staub’s role models growing up were physicians, which guided him to a career in the medical field. He explored nephrology, emergency care and palliative medicine before landing on critical care and pulmonology, which combine his medical interests.

He has used his medical acumen in clinics around the globe, as well as in a medical command unit in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he has been a member since 2019. His passion for service also played out as a teacher at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where he was recognized as an outstanding educator two years in a row.

Dr. Staub enjoys art, finding his niche in painting portraits and landscapes. The youngest of five, the Charleston native also enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with his Labradoodle, Tolly.
