Beaufort Memorial Begins Work on Innovative Emergency & Urgent Care on Hilton Head Island
October 31, 2025
Sitework has officially begun on the state-of-the-art Beaufort Memorial Emergency & Urgent Care on the south end of Hilton Head Island.
This innovative healthcare facility will deliver 24/7 care that combines the convenience of an urgent care with the critical services of an emergency room – all under one roof.
Located along William Hilton Parkway on Hilton Head Island, the new facility will offer around-the-clock access to critical healthcare services and will be staffed with emergency-trained, board-certified physicians and nurses. Work began on the site with demolition of the previous structure on Oct. 27, and construction is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2026.
“Beaufort Memorial is staying true to its promise to expand access and grow healthcare services in southern Beaufort County,” said Beaufort Memorial President and CEO Russell Baxley. “This combination emergency and urgent care facility is a huge milestone, providing an innovative, patient-centered approach to deliver healthcare on Hilton Head Island.”
Beaufort Memorial is partnering with MUSC Health and Dallas-based Intuitive Health to open one of the first combination ER and urgent care sites in South Carolina. It’s a critical step for the nonprofit community hospital system in its dedication to meet the ever-growing need for medical care on Hilton Head Island.
“We’re proud to partner with Beaufort Memorial to bring this care model to Hilton Head Island,” said Thom Herrmann, CEO of Intuitive Health. “By combining emergency and urgent care services under one roof, patients and families will no longer have to decide where to go when they need care. They can simply come to one location and trust that they’ll receive the right level of care, right away.”
How the Combination Emergency & Urgent Care Model Works
The facility offers a transparent and cost-effective care experience for patients:
- One location, open 24/7, for both emergency and urgent care services
- Patients are billed only for the level of care they need
- No appointments required
- Shorter wait times compared to traditional ERs
- Access to onsite lab equipment and a radiology suite that includes X-ray and CT scanners
“When a patient experiences a sudden health concern, they want the best quality care delivered as quickly as possible,” said Patrick J. Cawley, M.D., MUSC Health CEO and executive vice president for Health Affairs, University. “We are please to be able to provide access to these services alongside Beaufort Memorial for the residents of Hilton Head Island.”
A Long-Term Investment in Hilton Head Island Healthcare
Beaufort Memorial Emergency & Urgent Care is a major milestone in the nonprofit, community health system’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to healthcare services on Hilton Head Island.
“Beaufort Memorial has always been dedicated to smart growth,” Baxley added. “This facility is a fantastic step in our goal to continue making high-quality, cost-effective healthcare more accessible for Lowcountry residents, especially those on Hilton Head Island.”
