Beaufort Memorial President and CEO Russell Baxley has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the nation’s top community hospital and health system CEOs.
Becker’s, the leading healthcare publication for hospital business news and analysis, honored 240 community hospital and health system CEOs in 2026. The featured leaders were selected for their efforts to improve quality of care, expand access to services and equip their facilities to best serve their community.
Baxley was one of only three South Carolina healthcare leaders to receive the honor.
“This achievement is an honor that also reflects the dedication of the entire team at Beaufort Memorial,” Baxley said. “Every day, our physicians, nurses, caregivers and staff all work tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of our community. I’m proud to be a part of an organization that puts the community first and works hard to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families.”
Baxley was recognized for his leadership in expanding service lines, recruiting providers, building the largest primary care network in Beaufort County, advancing workforce development and growing healthcare access across the Lowcountry.
Under his leadership, Beaufort Memorial also provided more than $35 million in uncompensated charity care in 2025 and contributes more than $100,000 annually to local nonprofits.
Becker’s described Baxley and the other honorees as “visionaries” who are dedicated to positively impacting their communities through high-quality, accessible care and long-term growth.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the progress we’ve made together as both a health system and a community,” Baxley said. “We’ve worked hard to expand access to care, recruit skilled and compassionate caregivers and invest in the future of healthcare here in the Lowcountry. There’s still more to do, and we’re excited about what’s next for Beaufort Memorial.”
Becker’s recently honored the Beaufort Memorial PATH program and education center as one of the top in the nation as well, as 93 innovative healthcare education initiatives were highlighted earlier in 2026.
