Hammes Company, the nation’s leading healthcare facility developer, will develop the new BMH medical office building in Okatie Crossing near Sun City.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital (BMH) has selected Hammes Company, the nation’s leading healthcare facility developer, to develop its new medical office building in Okatie Crossing near Sun City. Construction is expected to begin this summer.

The 60,000- to 70,000-square-foot medical office building will be located on a 19-acre parcel of land owned by BMH, and will be subject to a long-term ground lease. The building will be considered Phase I of a multi-phase development with Phase II being the recently announced 20-bed micro-hospital.
Beaufort Memorial began offering pre-operative services in Bluffton in 2003, later expanding its presence to include a number of specialists from internal medicine and OB-GYN to orthopedics and vascular surgery. The new Bluffton campus will replace the current multi-specialty facility in Westbury Park, and will allow the hospital to expand service offerings to the growing Greater Bluffton community.

“As the county’s hospital we are committed to our mission to improve the health of the community, and that includes our patients in Greater Bluffton, Sun City and Hilton Head,” said BMH President and CEO Russell Baxley, MHA. “We are excited to break ground this summer and to begin building a gateway to better health for all Beaufort County residents.”

The new medical office building will be three stories with BMH occupying the first two floors. The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC Health) and third-party physicians will occupy the third floor.
A variety of services will be offered at the new campus, including:

  • Cancer Center with a Linear Accelerator
  • Cardiology
  • Imaging (MRI, CT, X-Ray, and Ultrasound)
  • Infusion Services
  • Lab
  • OBGYN
  • Orthopedics
  • Pediatrics
  • Primary Care
  • Physical, Speech and Occupational Therapy

Construction will take approximately 12 months to complete and is scheduled to open in late 2019. Hammes Company will serve as the project manager for the project. Other team members include Novus Architects and M.B. Kahn Construction.
