Beaufort Memorial Hospital was recently recognized by the American College of Cardiology, U.S. News & World Report, American Heart Association and American Stroke Association with several achievement awards for high-quality treatment of heart attacks and stroke.

In late summer, Beaufort Memorial was one of only 262 hospitals nationwide to receive the 2023 Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) for Chest Pain - Myocardial Infraction (MI). The award recognizes commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients by following the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations. To receive this prestigious award, Beaufort Memorial demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain - MI Registry for two consecutive years and has performed at the highest level for specific performance measures.

“This newest award coupled with the numerous other certifications and awards by accrediting bodies speak volumes about our commitment to providing safe, high-quality, patient-centered care at Beaufort Memorial,” said Beaufort Memorial President and CEO Russell Baxley, MHA. “I am especially proud of our emergency department and heart and vascular program for their commitment to providing the highest quality cardiac care to our community.”

Beaufort Memorial was named a 2023-24 High Performing Hospital for Stroke by U.S. News & World Report based on its hospital ratings for performance in treating more prevalent medical conditions, like ischemic stroke. Hospitals are evaluated across multiple data categories, including the number of stroke patients treated, survival rate and patients discharged to their home.

Several American Heart Association and American Stroke Association cardiovascular achievement awards have been received this year by Beaufort Memorial. Earned for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, which ultimately led to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital, the awards include:

  • AHA Target: Stroke Honor Roll
  • AHA Get With the Guidelines: Stroke Gold Plus Achievement
  • AHA Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI Gold
  • AHA Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll (Heart Failure, Stroke)

“We are pleased to recognize Beaufort Memorial for its commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said John Warner, M.D., FAHA, past president of the American Heart Association and CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. “Hospitals that follow the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols often see improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”

Beaufort Memorial is also certified by The Joint Commission for Chest Pain and has achieved Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center. The Joint Commission is an independent organization that sets quality and patient safety standards for hospitals. It accredits and certifies more than 22,000 health care organizations in the nation. Beaufort Memorial has continuously earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®, which shows the hospital’s commitment to quality and patient safety.
