September News: Staff Achievement and New Faces in the ER

With September bringing a new season, the month also brought staff highlights and Beaufort Memorial experts making their mark in the news.
MUSC Emergency Medicine Residents Begin at Beaufort Memorial The Pratt Emergency Center at Beaufort Memorial began welcoming Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Emergency Medicine residents on a rotating schedule that began in August.

High Achievements in September
September was a month of staff achievement and recognition at Beaufort Memorial, as an ER nurse was honored with the prestigious DAISY award for nursing excellence, and the Diabetes Care Center earned national recognition for its commitment to education and support.

As always, Beaufort Memorial medical experts lent their expertise to various news outlets in September.
Among these experts were:
- Dr. Heidi Harrington, board-certified and fellowship-trained plastic surgeon with Beaufort Memorial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, who gave WSAV’s “Medical Monday” crew a rundown of facial rejuvenation options at the practice.
- Dr. Harrington was also featured in Pink Magazine, in a profile that shows a little of who the surgeon is outside of the office.
- Dr. Eric Turner, board-certified and fellowship-trained medical oncologist at Beaufort Memorial Oncology Specialists, who highlighted for The Island News eight factors to consider before choosing an oncologist on your cancer journey.
- Melissa Mesenburg, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, a family nurse practitioner who sees patients at Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists, who highlighted some quick facts about ovarian cysts in The Island News.
- Dr. Mark Bechtel, board-certified osteopathic family medicine physician at Beaufort Memorial Express Care & Occupational Health, pointed out some little-known facts about ringworm and its treatment for Pink Magazine’s monthly “Pink Rx” section.
- Dr. Andrew Castro, a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon who sees patients at Beaufort Memorial as a part of the Advanced Orthopedic and Spine Program, who offered his input on sciatica symptoms – and how to find relief – for The Island News.
