About Dr. Francis O'Neill

"I look at my patients as whole people and treat them like my family. Their care is not a transaction; it’s a conversation. I’m going to listen."

Board certified in internal medicine and fellowship trained in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology, Dr. Francis “Frank” O’Neill brings extensive experience with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures to Beaufort Memorial Heart Specialists where he will diagnose and treat patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. In addition to seeing patients in the Beaufort and Okatie offices, he will perform cardiac catheterization procedures at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Areas of Expertise

  • Interventional Cardiology — Diagnosing and treating heart disease and blood vessel conditions using catheters.
  • Heart Failure — Treatment of a chronic condition in which the heart does not pump blood properly.
  • Coronary Disease — A condition when a heart's blood supply is blocked or interrupted by build-up in the arteries.
  • Arrhythmia Management — Treatment of an abnormal heartbeat.
  • Hypertension — A condition where the force of blood pushing against your artery walls is consistently too high (also called high blood pressure).

Background

Dr. O’Neill was always interested in medicine and had a desire to help people. His passion was further stoked when his father passed away due to cancer when he was 13 years old.

During medical school he found a particular aptitude for cardiology and said, “once you find something you’re pretty good at, you fall in love with it, too.” After training in internal medicine and cardiology in New York, he was most recently the director of the cath lab and cardiac critical care at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y.

Dr. O’Neill’s rural upbringing on his family’s 50-acre dairy farm in upstate New York is one of the factors that attracted him to Beaufort: he and his wife Rita wanted their three children to grow up in a smaller community.

Achievements, Awards & Honors

  • As of November 2024, Dr. O'Neill has performed more than 1,000 high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and stent procedures.
