Baby Basics

Becoming a parent is a major life-changing event. It can be wonderful, but also stressful. Let us help you learn the ropes with our Baby Basics class. The class will help ease your transition from hospital to home as a new family. Topics will include how to bond with your baby, infant cues and typical newborn behavior, feeding, diapering, bathing and skincare tips, circumcision information, sleep and car seat safety, and much more. It is recommended that you take this class during the seventh month of your pregnancy. It will be interactive and fun, with time for any questions you might have.

Prepared Childbirth

As a soon-to-be parent, you want to do everything you can to ease the labor process and make informed decisions. This class will cover childbirth methods, stages of labor and what to expect in the hospital labor room. You will also learn about pain management techniques and how your birth partner can help support your labor.

Breast-feeding Class

How will you feed your baby? Beginning your breast-feeding experience well and learning how your body works with your growing baby and what to expect in the first weeks and months will take much of the guess-work and anxiety out of this important choice.

Hug Your Baby

HUG helps parents discover the amazing talents of the newborn and how to read your baby’s body language to promote effective breast-feeding, sleeping, comforting and attachment.  This information is most valuable during the first weeks with your new baby. You are invited to attend this class before your baby is born or soon after—and you can bring a baby to class!

Breast-Feeding Support

Beaufort Memorial provides a board-certified lactation consultant and a team of lactation-educated nurses to coach and assist you as needed during breast-feeding. Once you’re home, they remain available to answer questions via the 24/7 warm line at 843-441-4586.
