Keyserling Cancer Center
Tumor Conference
“Ultimately This Leads to the Best Possible Outcome”
The Tumor Conference at Beaufort Memorial Hospital's (BMH) Keyserling Cancer Center is a forum for a broad range of specialists, who come together to develop the best treatment recommendations for complex cancer cases.
Although tumor conferences at other hospitals often focus on closed cancer cases, our physicians consider and act on the cases of our current patients.
“The more information we have, the better we can be at making the best decisions with and for our patients,” says BMH’s Chief of Pathology Brad Collins, MD, who leads the monthly meetings.
Typically, the tumor conference is attended by a pathologist, oncologists (cancer treatment specialists), surgeons, radiologists, oncology nurses, a primary care physician, and the breast care coordinator and regularly by Duke specialists, thanks to our affiliation to this top Cancer Center.
“Having medical and radiation oncology specialists in our center, as well as other support services, allows ease of conferencing over additional data and continually updating plans.” says Majd Chahin, MD, medical oncologist and medical director of BMH's Oncology Services. “Ultimately, this leads to the best possible outcome.”
