The Blood Alliance at Beaufort Memorial Hospital

Hosting a Mobile Blood Drive

The Blood Alliance (TBA) must collect 360 units of blood EACH DAY to meet the needs of patients at the hospitals and other medical facilities it supplies!

Without the support of drive hosts, meeting those needs would be impossible.

What does hosting a blood drive entail? First, the hosting organization appoints a drive chairperson (CP). The CP works with the local donor resource consultant to:

  • Schedule the date and time of the drive.
  • Determine the drive goal and how best to recruit enough donors to meet that goal. Recruitment is by far the most important part of hosting a drive.
  • Publicize the drive with customized marketing materials (such as posters and fliers) provided free by TBA.

On the day of the drive, our bloodmobile arrives approximately 30 minutes before the drive is scheduled to begin. All the hosting organization needs to provide is an appropriate parking place for the bloodmobile (which is 42 feet long and requires five to seven parking spaces) and access to restrooms for the bloodmobile staff. We bring with us all necessary equipment, as well as refreshments for donors.
