Areas of Expertise

• Urgent Care — Treatment of medical conditions that are not immediately life- or limb-threatening, but are serious enough to require care within 24 hours.
• Wound Care — The dressing, and suturing as needed, of cuts and lacerations.
• Respiratory Tract Infections — Infectious viral or bacterial diseases of the upper or lower respiratory tract, including the common cold, laryngitis, sore throat, tonsillitis, bronchitis and pneumonia.
• Digestive Complaints — Minor gastrointestinal upsets frequently characterized by vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
• Orthopedic Concerns — Treatment of sprains, strains and minor fractures and dislocations.

Video Visits

Background

Broadly experienced in his specialty, Dr. Kaup came to Beaufort Memorial from Hilton Head Hospital, where he pioneered emergency care and served for three decades in the hospital’s emergency room. It is no exaggeration to say that during his long career there, the well-known doctor and one-time ER medical director treated most of the island’s residents at one time or another.

Dr. Kaup and his wife, DeAnna, a former aerospace engineer at NASA, grew up together in Tipp City, Ohio, and now have two college-age daughters. A homebrewer and leading member of a local “beer group,” he also likes golf, but admits the sport “doesn’t like me very much.”
