At Beaufort Memorial Lowcountry Medical Group Specialty Care, Kristen Johnson works closely with board-certified gastroenterologists and physician assistants in the prevention and treatment of disorders of the digestive system.

She is passionate about following medicine’s constant advancements in technology and therapeutic breakthroughs, as well as educating and empowering patients to be knowledgeable partners in their healthcare.

Areas of Expertise

• Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) — A disorder that causes issues in your large intestine, including abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea and gas.
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease — Chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract that can cause blood in the stools, stomach pain and weight loss. Two primary types of IBD are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
• Gallbladder Disease — Any condition that affects the gallbladder or the ducts that carry bile from the gallbladder to the intestine, including gallstones, bile duct stones and acute cholecystitis.
• Chronic GI Conditions — Ongoing conditions affecting the digestive system such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcers and hemorrhoids.
• Liver Disorders — There are over 100 known liver diseases, including hepatitis A, B and C, liver cancer and liver failure caused by cirrhosis, malnutrition or poisoning.

Background

Mrs. Johnson joined the gastroenterology team at Beaufort Memorial in 2018 after working 10 years in a busy Ridgeland family practice, treating patients with acute and chronic illnesses. She previously worked as a PA at the Beaufort Memorial Pratt Emergency Center.

Mrs. Johnson and her husband Warren have twin daughters and enjoy spending time outdoors, especially on the boat, exploring new sights and activities throughout the Lowcountry.
