A Toronto native, Dr. Vyge knew by fifth grade that medicine was the profession for him. During his teens, he worked at VJ Rickshaw Tours, a summer business that taught him the value of long hours and a strong back.
Following his graduation from the University of Toronto with a degree in human biology, Dr. Vyge received an M.B. [an M.D. equivalent] in 1995 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. He completed rotating internships in general medicine, nephrology, urology and otolaryngology at Dublin's Beaumont Hospital, then returned to North America—with his Irish bride, Pam—for a residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, an affiliate of Yale University and New York Medical College, in Bridgeport, Conn. There he was chief resident and recipient of the residency program’s Humanitarian Award.
Before joining Lady’s Island Internal Medicine, Dr.Vyge practiced internal medicine with Marion Medical Group in Marion, S.C., for 13 years. During the period he also served as chief of the medical staff at Marion County Medical Center (now Carolinas Hospital System-Marion).
As a board-certified internist, he specializes in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult illness. A particular interest of Dr. Vyge’s is helping his patients with chronic diseases like diabetes to stay healthy.
Dr. Vyge lives with his wife and their three daughters on Lady’s Island. His interests include tennis, which he played competitively in college, and other racket sports, in addition to travel and outdoor activities with his family.
