Dr. Ralph Salzer, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, established Beaufort’s
first orthopaedic practice and in the more than 28 years since then has
performed thousands of knee and hip replacements. A New Orleans native, he received
his medical degree from Tulane University where he also completed both his
residency and internship at
university-affiliated hospitals. He completed additional sports
medicine-focused training at the Hughston Clinic.
Dr. Salzer has a broad range of interests
within orthopedics. Whenever possible, he first seeks non-operative
treatment to correct dynamic problems and improve conditioning and flexibility
before considering surgical treatment. His
surgical interests include knee arthroscopy
and reconstruction as well as rotator cuff disorders stemming from impingement. He
also has a strong interest and expertise in hand
surgery, treating a wide variety of hand disorders.
With a laser focus on ongoing professional
development, Dr. Salzer continually works to advance his personal clinical techniques
and practice management through extensive
and ongoing continuing medical education. He is a member of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and South
Carolina Orthopaedic Association.
