Searching for Signs of Breast Cancer
Our multidisciplinary team of skilled specialists provides a broad range of breast health services at our Beaufort Women’s Imaging Center and at Bluffton Medical Services.
Our center was created as a private environment just for women. In Beaufort, we offer digital screening and diagnostic mammograms with same-day results, breast biopsies and support through our breast care coordinators and surgeons with offices in the Women’s Imaging Center. Our surgeons are on-site five days a week to offer same-day consultations and to perform diagnostic procedures.
Our state-of-the-art technology uses low-dose radiation to screen for breast abnormalities. While the process is similar to conventional film mammograms, with our digital system we can shorten the exam time and transmit images faster. We also use MammoPads to make the exam more comfortable.
Our mammography services are accredited by the American College of Radiology and mammograms are interpreted by a board-certified radiologist.
3-D Breast Tomosynthesis
3-D breast tomosynthesis, a powerful newFDA approved diagnostic tool for the early detection of breast cancer, is now available in our area only at the Beaufort Memorial Women’s Imaging Center.
The new 3-D mammograms improve breast cancer detection and reduce the number of those unnerving false positives.
SHOULD YOU OPT FOR A 3-D MAMMOGRAM?
Tomosynthesis does not replace the traditional mammogram. But it is recommended for certain women, including those who:
-Have dense breast tissue, because it can mask cancers or lead to false positives
-Are considered high risk
-Have been recommended for a diagnostic study
-Are having a baseline mammogram
Along with digital mammography, at the Beaufort Memorial Women’s Imaging Center we offer ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsies and bone density tests.
