2013 Keyserling Cancer Center Outcome Studies and Quality Improvement

The Beaufort Memorial Keyserling Cancer Center (KCC) strives to provide its patients with the latest, most effective cancer treatment available.

One component of cancer care that benefits current and future patients is the tracking of treatment effectiveness. Since 2007, KCC has collected patient information designed to advance treatment as well as prevention.

KCC drew on the information for two studies whose data dates from 2011 and 2007, respectively. The results of both studies were published in 2013.

One study, devoted to breast cancer, looked at age at diagnosis, stage of disease, prevalence and mortality over five years in African Americans compared with those in Caucasians. To view 2013 breast cancer study results click here.

The other study reviewed adherence to National Cancer Center Network Guidelines and five-year survival rates for patients with stage III colon cancer treated at KCC. The KCC data was compared with that for patients with stage III disease in the National Cancer Data Base as a whole. To view 2013 colon cancer study results click here.

Both studies offer encouragement for patients receiving treatment for breast or colon cancer at KCC.
