About Mr. Archer

Richard Archer, a licensed professional counselor with 25 years’ experience in the diagnosis and treatment of broadly ranging mental health problems, joined Beaufort Memorial Sea Island Psychiatry in 2015. He is licensed as a specialist clinical social worker.

Mr. Archer includes relational therapies among his professional interests. His extensive training in Bowen family systems theory, mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) informs his approach to the treatment of individuals, couples and acute trauma.

Before coming to Beaufort Memorial, the Massachusetts native was clinical director of Horizons Mental Health Center in Hutchinson, Kan., with responsibility for the training and supervision of the five-county center’s clinical staff. He began his career in 1988 as a clinical social worker at Prairie View, a community mental health center in Newton, Kan., and went on to become its vice president of child and adolescent services.

A father of five, Mr. Archer is a runner, cyclist and swimmer who enjoys participating in triathlons. He regularly practices yoga and meditation.
