Beaufort Memorial’s 70-year history of caring for Lowcountry families has a new chapter: Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists. With four, highly skilled, board-certified OB-GYNs, the practice offers convenient, comprehensive women’s health services including wellness, preconception planning, prenatal care, childbirth, menopause management, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.   The practice is equipped with the latest screening and diagnostic services, including 3-D and 4-D ultrasound. What’s more, new generations of Beaufort mothers can expect the same compassionate women’s health expertise their mothers and grandmothers trusted for themselves. 

Christopher Benson, M.D., FACOG
Christopher Benson, M.D., FACOG
 is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine and has been in private practice for more than 17 years. Before completing his obstetrics and gynecology residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in Texas, he served in Iraq as a squadron surgeon. Dr. Benson is trained in minimally invasive and da Vinci robot-assisted surgery, including advanced single-incision hysterectomy. He uses his strong interest in and knowledge of fitness, weight-loss and complementary disciplines for his patients’ benefit.



Dr. Marlena Mattingly came to Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics & Gynecology from medical residency. Enjoying all aspects of her OB-GYN specialty, she offers patients pregnancy care from conception through delivery as well as general gynecology and gynecological surgery services. Dr. Mattingly, who graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, includes contraception planning, especially for young women, among her professional interests.


Gregory Miller, M.D., FACOG
With more than 22 years’ experience in obstetrics and gynecology, board-certified OB-GYN, Gregory Miller, M.D., FACOG brings to Beaufort both broad experience in minimally invasive surgery and neonatal resuscitation certification. A graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Miller completed his internship and residency at the University of Florida and later served at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. In addition to da Vinci robot-assisted surgery — including advanced single-incision hysterectomy — Dr. Miller’s professional interests include obstetrical care.


Patricia A. Thompson, M.D.
Dr. Pat Thompson, a board-certified specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, strengthened her two-decade relationship with Beaufort Memorial in joining Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists in 2016. She came to the practice from Gynecology Associates of Beaufort. Now specializing in gynecological care for women of all ages (no longer delivering babies), she includes among her professional interest robot-assisted surgery and postmenopausal health. Dr. Thompson received her Doctor of Medicine degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine; her Master of Healthcare Administration from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and her Bachelor of Science in medical technology from West Virginia University. She completed her residency in OB-GYN at University Hospital MacDonald Women’s Hospital in Cleveland.


Maggie Bisceglia
Maggie Bisceglia, MSN, CRNP, a certified registered nurse practitioner, brings more than 30 years of medical experience to Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists. She came to the practice from Alleghany Health Network in Pittsburgh, where she was an OB-GYN nurse practitioner. In Beaufort, Ms. Bisceglia works with board- certified Drs. Christopher Benson, Marlena Mattingly and Gregory Miller, and with certified nurse-midwife Janna Jones Kersh, to provide routine gynecologic and pregnancy care. She also sees patients at Beaufort Memorial Harrison Peeples Health Care Center in Varnville.


Maureen Chapman
A certified nurse-midwife with more than 25 years of experience, Maureen Chapman now specializes,along with Dr. Pat Thompson and nurse practitioner Suzanne Wolf, in well-woman health care and no longer delivers babies. She does, however, provide pregnant patients with prenatal care. Ms. Chapman,who holds a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science inNursing from La Salle University, was recently a clinical instructor in women’s health at MUSC and earlier established a private midwifery practice in Pennsylvania and served as a flight nurse in the U.S. Air ForceReserve.


Janna Jones Kersh , who holds a master’s degree in nurse-midwifery from Vanderbilt University, specializes in providing a safe, individualized childbirth experience for women with low-risk pregnancies. She is trained to take a holistic approach to the birthing process, intervening only when necessary. She also sees patients in need of gynecological and primary care services, including contraception and family planning counseling, preconception care, gynecological exams, menopausal management and counseling in health management and disease prevention.


Catherine Tambroni-Parker, Certified Nurse-Midwife, Obstetrics and Gynecology came to Beaufort Memorial Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists in summer 2016 from Park Ridge Health in Hendersonville, N.C., where she worked as a certified nurse-midwife. At the Beaufort practice she joins the obstetrical team of Drs. Christopher Benson, Marlena Mattingly and Gregory Miller, and certified nurse-midwife Janna Jones Kersh. She includes among her professional interests providing patients and their families with a solid base of knowledge during prenatal visits. Mrs. Tambroni-Parker, who for 15 years cared for patients in underserved Upstate New York, comes from a long line of women in health care.
