Financial Assistance
Our Policy on Billing Discounts/Charity Care
It is the policy of Beaufort Memorial Hospital to provide financial assistance for patients in need. This assistance will include assisting patients in qualifying for the Medicaid program, the Medically Indigent Assistance Program (for inpatients only), or the Hospital-Sponsored Assistance Program. We use the federal poverty guidelines as a baseline for determining the amount of assistance we can offer.
The Medically Indigent Assistance Program (MIAP) is a state program designed to assist patients who are admitted to the hospital for services. All inpatients seeking financial assistance with their hospital bills will be asked to complete an MIAP application before they can be considered for the Hospital-Sponsored Assistance Program. Patients who do not qualify for MIAP will then be considered for the Hospital-Sponsored Assistance Program.
There are situations that may arise that involve patients who have insurance and may not qualify for Medicaid or MIAP. Also, there are situations in which a patient may have financial resources but no health insurance coverage. These patients may qualify for assistance by means of a discount on the balance of their account(s).
For outpatient services, patients will be asked to complete the application for financial assistance under the Hospital-Sponsored Assistance Program. Use the links in the top box of this page to download a PDF version of this form, or complete and online version of the form.
People requesting financial assistance or a discount should contact a Patient Financial Counselor by calling (843) 522-5150 or (866) 428-2762.
