Rick Toomey Welcomes You to Beaufort Memorial Hospital

Rick Toomey, Beaufort Memorial’s President & CEO talks about how our affiliation with Duke Medicine in cancer care has given local patients access to national clinical trials right here in Beaufort. Also, Duke specialists are giving specialty training in the care of cancer patients to our nurses on the hospital’s 5th floor.

BMH also created a new position of a Breast Care Coordinator, who will work with women, helping them navigate the sometimes confusing maze of providers and services in a quick and efficient manner. All the while, this nurse will be available to our patients to answer their questions and ensure they are treated with compassion and understanding.

Although we opened the Keyserling Cancer Center with the latest state-of-the-art radiation technology, we continue to upgrade the software, which increases our capabilities and lessens treatment side-effects. New applications include treating skin lesions with radiation rather than MOHS surgery.

An outpatient Wound Care Center is scheduled to open in the Beaufort Medical Plaza (next to BMH) in October. Physicians at the center will work closely with referring physicians to ensure the best patient outcomes. Besides offering the latest protocols in wound therapy, two hyperbaric oxygen chambers will also be available for treatment of certain wounds, as indicated.

BMH also welcomes the addition of Drs. Heather and Jonathan Hutchings, family medicine specialists, to our owned primary care offices. They join internal medicine specialist Stephen Luther, MD in offering primary care to patients in the southern part of our market. Their office, Coastal Primary Care, will remain in Hardeeville.

Bluffton Medical Services is growing due to patient demand, offering more office space for doctors, and adding rehabilitation services. We hope to have construction completed by early next year.

We are working with Board members, physicians, and staff to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for BMH’s future, keeping in mind our commitment to patient safety, quality and customer service.
